Bubble Day at the Library

Boy, when I get a wild hare, do I ever get a wild hare...

About a week or so ago, I decided that what I wanted to do more than anything in the world was to blow bubbles on the front steps of the library. There was no purpose to this: it wasn't a political statement to suggest that if the provincial government cut funding for the library that our services would "pop". No, my reasons for wanting to do this were (1) because there wasn't anything saying that I couldn't, and (2) because I love libraries, particularly public libraries, but especially my own public library, and I wanted to do something fun and frivolous on the front steps.

I told a few colleagues who agreed that blowing bubbles at the library was a capital idea. So, armed with about seven bottles of bubbles, I made my way to the Central Branch to spread a little happiness on this overcast Friday afternoon.

At first there were only three of us participating, but to get the crowd involved, I passed out extra bubbles to complete strangers. After a while, people stopped feeling self-conscious and really got into the spirit. I took a few snapshots to record the day.

I've never organized an event like this before, not that it was at all organized. Still, this was the happiest memory I've made in many years, and I'm so glad that I did it under the watchful eye and stately facade of one of my favourite buildings in the city.
